Hundreds Protest Glen Ellyn's Congressman

About 400 people protested Rep. Peter Roskom as he met with a Republican group in Palatine on Saturday, according to the Daily Herald.

The Republican represents the Illinois 6th Congressional district, which includes Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Lisle, northeastern Naperville, Barrington and Palatine.

Roskam met with about 100 members of the Palatine Township Republican Organization, while the protesters chanted outside.

At the meeting, Roskam said he supports the president's plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, reduce business regulations and taxes, and review immigration policies.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Roskam stated his support for President Trump's executive order on immigration.

"The threat environment facing the U.S. is unprecedented, and we must adapt our immigration admission policies to counter the threat of ISIS and other terrorist groups....President Trump’s executive order is not perfect, but it is a necessary first step in protecting the homeland," Roskam said in the statement.

According to the Elgin Courier News, Roskam's staff canceled and rescheduled a meeting with 16 constituents last week. The group wanted to meet about the Affordable Care Act, but staff canceled the meeting when they discovered that a member of the press was present.

One group, Action for a Better Tomorrow, "demands Republican Congressman Peter Roskam hold a town hall," according to their website.

Palatine police made one arrest during the protest. Photojournalist Brian O'Mahoney tweeted a picture of one man being arrested.
