The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) has included Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” presented by Talmi Entertainment, Inc. (TEI) to the MAC’s recommended holiday programming. This pre-recorded digital performance delivers quintessential Russian artistry in the form of America’s favorite family Christmas tradition replete with magical toys, falling snow and growing Christmas trees. Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” begins streaming Dec.19, 2020 at 7 p.m. Central Time.

It is Christmas Eve and Masha (commonly known as Clara in U.S. productions), after an exciting Christmas party, falls asleep and dreams the magical nutcracker she received as a gift has turned into a handsome prince. This prince defends her from an army of rodents before leading her into a snowy fantasy world where the residents perform a series of regional dance variations in her honor. In Moscow Ballet’s version, Act II is set in the Land of Peace and Harmony (vs. the land of Sweets) where Masha and the Prince’s guide is the Dove of Peace. The Dallas Morning News notes, “The twist works to expose more of her [Masha’s] burgeoning maturity, making the journey not a childish dream but an honorable quest.” The performance will be viewable through Jan. 1, 2021. Tickets are $24.99 for the performance. Sales end Dec. 29, 2020.
