Nearly 2 Inches Of Rainfall Spur Flood Control In DuPage County

Flood control operations are in effect throughout DuPage County after nearly two inches of rainfall caused flooded streets, rising rivers.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Continued rainfall and melting snow has triggered flood management in DuPage County. Nearly two inches of rain accumulated throughout the county and officials say more than an inch of rain is expected Wednesday morning.

Salt Creek and West Branch DuPage River have risen to levels that spurred activation of Fawell Dam in Naperville, Armstrong Park Reservoirs in Carol Stream, Elmhurst Quarry, and Spring Creek Reservoir in Bloomingdale.

Officials the say Wood Dale-Itasca Reservoir will likely go into operation later Tuesday morning. These large flood management facilities will stay active until at least Friday, according to a news release.

The 16 large and small flood operation facilities throughout DuPage County can hold close to 6 billion gallons of water, officials said.

High standing water has already closed many streets in Downers Grove, Naperville, and other nearby towns. In Bolingbrook, the DuPage River has nearly reached official flood levels.
