New Glen Ellyn Police Station Expected To Be Completed Early

The mild winter has allowed the contractor be one month ahead of schedule.

Construction of the new police station in Glen Ellyn is expected to be completed in July, a month earlier than expected, according to the Daily Herald.

The $13.5 million project is expected to be completed in July instead of August. The mild winter allowed the contract to work more than they planned.

The new facility near Panfish Park will be a significant improvement from the department's current home, the first floor of the civic center, which was originally a school.

"This space is designed and constructed as a police station, whereas the space that we're in right now never really was," Assistant Police Chief Bill Holmer told the Daily Herald.

Forty police officers and their supervisors have worked at the current location for over forty years. The old structure lacks space for evidence storage, and detained suspects are brought through a parking lot used by village employees.

The site of the new station was selected for its proximity to the Roosevelt Road corridor, where there is a significant volume of 911 calls.

The new building will also feature a meeting space with room for 50 seats.
