Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Train in Wheaton Tuesday

The Union Pacific West Line was shut down for 90 minutes, but began operating again around 8 p.m.

Metra train number 55 on the Union Pacific/West Line struck a pedestrian Tuesday night at about 6:30 p.m, killing the person, the Chicago SunTimes is reporting.

The accident happened between the Wheaton and Winfield stations.

No information was available on the person who was hit.

That train left the station in Chicago at 5:34 p.m. The crash delayed other trains in both directions between Elburn and Chicago.

Other trains traveling to Elburn and Chicago were delayed because of the crash, Metra said on its website.

The Daily Herald reported that the trains will operate on the following schedule:

  • Train No. 55 will not operate past Winfield tonight due to the incident.
  • Train No. 65 will accommodate Train No. 55’s passengers.
  • Train No. 64 will not operate tonight
  • Train No. 66 will make all stops into Chicago
