Teen Accused Of Stealing Car In Glen Ellyn, Fleeing Cops
Kenneth Diamond, 19, was charged with theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer and motor vehicle burglary.
GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after police say he stole a car from a driveway in Glen Ellyn and led police on a high-speed chase. Kenneth Diamond, 19, was charged with theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer and motor vehicle burglary in connection with the June 30, 2020, incident.
On Friday, bond was set at $500,000 for Diamond.
Wheaton police responded to a call around 3 a.m. June 30, 2020, of a burglary in progress in the 1000 block of South Gamon Road. Police say two dark-colored cars fled the scene, one of which was a 2016 Lincoln MKX that had been reported stolen out of Glen Ellyn.

An investigation led police to identify Diamond as the suspect who drove the Lincoln, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
“While we currently find ourselves in the midst of an epidemic of car thefts, the bond set today and the cooperative efforts displayed by the law enforcement agencies involved should send the message that in DuPage County we take these types of crimes very seriously,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
Berlin added, “What I find particularly aggravating about this case is the allegation that the defendant displayed a complete disregard for the rule of law and put the general public at risk by fleeing at a high rate of speed. Even more, after the vehicle the defendant was allegedly driving was disabled by the use of stop sticks, the defendant allegedly abandoned that vehicle and fled in another car, again at a high rate of speed."
Diamond is set to appear in court again May 24.
