3 New Members Join Highland Park–Highwood Legal Aid Clinic Board

From HPH Legal Aid: The Highland Park- Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Laura Levin Ulrich, Ivan Golden and Zachary Goldman to the Clinic’s Board of Directors. Board members bring diverse experience and skills together with shared commitment to the Clinic.

Members set policy, serve as ambassadors, educate the community, financially support the Clinic, and build relationships that support the Clinic’s mission. Laura Levin Ulrich is an attorney and community advocate. She practiced law with Chicago law firms Hopkins & Sutter and Foley and Lardner after the firms merged. Her practice focused on general corporate law with an emphasis on airport transactions.

Since leaving the formal practice of law, she has been active in the local and greater community including serving as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Laura graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received a JD-MM from Northwestern University. She resides in Glencoe with her husband and four daughters. Ivan Golden is Partner with Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP. His legal practice is focused on tax planning, federal and state tax controversies, and general corporate matters. Before joining Hahn Loeser & Parks, Ivan practiced at Schiff Hardin LLP and, prior to that, he served as a law clerk to Judge L. Paige Marvel of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. Ivan earned an LL.M. in tax law from New York University and a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Ivan lives in Highland Park with his two children.

Zachary Goldman is an Assistant Vice President of Commercial Real Estate at the First Bank of Highland Park. Zachary has over 7 years of experience in commercial real estate banking and construction financing in the Chicago area. Most recently his focus has been on single family and multifamily residential construction and mixed use value- add projects throughout the Chicagoland Area. He also focuses on the Bank’s national student housing portfolio and works with investors and developers to revitalize low to moderate income neighborhoods. Zachary has served on Chicago’s Neighborhood Housing Services Event Planning Committee and is also a Tax Preparation volunteer with Ladder Up. He earned his B.S. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and an MBA in Real Estate and Finance from Roosevelt University. “Each member of the Board of Directors brings a unique skill set that is critical to the success and growth of the Clinic as they dedicate their time and energy to ensuring access to justice to those in need of advocacy and free, high quality legal services,” stated Board Chair David Neiman. “As the Clinic expands geographically, we are pleased to expand the Board of Directors and welcome Laura, Ivan and Zachary.”

Mayor Nancy Rotering founded the Highland Park-Highwood Legal Aid Clinic on May 1, 2015. The Clinic provides access to justice for individuals who live and work in Highland Park and Highwood in the areas of immigration, landlord-tenant matters, and domestic abuse. The Clinic recently celebrated its first anniversary and became U.S. Bureau of Immigration Affairs accredited for legal work in immigration law.
