Child Luring Attempt Reported In Highland Park

A man in a silver Nissan approached a 12-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon, police were told.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park police said they are investigating a report that a motorist tried to lure a 12-year-old girl Monday as she walked near Braeside Elementary School.

Around 5 p.m., a man driving a silver Nissan Murano drove up to the girl near Braeside Road and Lakeside Place, police were told.

The driver asked her if she wanted to go to Sheridan Road with him, police said in a statement. The girl said "no." He drove away.

Police said the driver was described as a heavyset man, 30 to 50 years of age and heavyset. He had dark hair with a medium complexion, according to police.

Announcing the incident, police asked parents and guardians to remind children of general safety precautions to take while outside the house — including not to talk with strangers on the way home, to run away if they keep trying to talk and to try to remember as much as possible about the stranger and their car.
