HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A crash involving tractor-trailers shut down northbound Route 41 in Highland Park at Clavey Road Monday, authorities said. Drivers were being detoured off the road at Lake Cook Road. The crash involved two passenger cars and two semi-trucks.

The crash began shortly after 6 a.m. when a tractor-trailer skidded out of control north of Chantilly Court, according to city staff. A second truck crashed as it tried to avoid the first truck. A passenger car slowing down to avoid the crash was then struck by another car.

Three people were taken to an area hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries. Wet road conditions were blamed for the crash, city staff said.

Separately, southbound traffic on Route 41 was seeing heavy delays from a crash south of Route 173 in North Chicago, according to the Lake County Department of Transportation. That crash was cleared shortly before 9 a.m., but heavy delays were expected to continue through the morning commute.

One lane of northbound Route 41 in Highland Park was reopened at 1:30 p.m. and would remain reduced one lane from Lake Cook Road to Park Avenue until Thursday as part of an ongoing resurfacing projection, IDOT announced. The transportation department attributed the closure to slick conditions on the unpaved surface of the work zone.
