Drunken Drivers Crash Into Ditch, Other Cars: HP Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
THEFT
Someone stole an unattended Apple Watch as it charged on a desk in an unspecified business in the 2300 block of Skokie Valley Road between about 9 and 10 a.m. Its software's tracking feature was not successful in locating it.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 300 block of Barberry Road reported that someone broke the glass on a rear sliding door between 2:30 and 4:40 p.m. on April 15. Officers reported finding a small hole that could have come from a BB or a rock, but no projectiles were discovered at the scene.

ARRESTS
Marc C. Ceber, 20, of the 1600 block of West Lunt Avenue, Chicago, was pulled over around 11:45 p.m. on April 13 in the area of Ridge and Deerfield roads. Officers ticketed him for speeding and driving without headlights when required. They also found he had a warrant for failing to appear in court in Douglas County, where records show he has pending charges for failure to notify after damaging an unattended vehicle, driving without insurance, not having a license and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit.
Apple Costa, 33, of the 2100 block of Northeast 51st Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was arrested around 4 a.m. on April 15 and charged with attempted possession of a controlled substance after police were called to the Mobil gas station at 1333 Skokie Valley Road for a report of a person sleeping behind the wheel of a car parked in the lot.

Corey A. Newsom, 28, of the 3300 block of North Vel R. Phillips Avenue, Milwaukee, was arrested around 3 a.m. on April 17 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit after officers arrived at the scene of a one-car crash near Skokie Valley and Clavey roads. Newsom, who had crashed into a ditch, was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Whitney K. Roach, 32, of the 12800 block of South Racine Avenue, Calumet Park, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on April 17 following a one-car, hit-and-run crash at the corner of Park Avenue and Skokie Valley Road. She was charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash with vehicle damage, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit. Officers also issued her citations for failure to reduce speed, disobeying a stop sign, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Baldev M. Patel, 53, of the 3800 block of West Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 3:15 p.m. on April 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after officers were dispatched to a complaint about someone driving on the Edens Expressway around Lake Cook Road. Officers also issued him a citation for improper lane usage.
Demonte J. Sample, 28, of the 600 block of West 70th Street, Chicago, was arrested around 4:15 a.m. on April 19 following a traffic stop at Half Daly and Skokie Valley roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater, driving with a suspended or revoked license and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver and improper lane usage.
