Final Stand-Up Comedy Show at Madame Zuzu's, Friday Mar. 9th

The only live comedy show in Highland Park takes its last bow this Friday at Madame Zuzu's Teahouse in the Ravinia Business District.

After more than two and a half years, the Funnier By The Lake Comedy showcase, which has been the resident live comedy show at Madame Zuzu's Teahouse in Highland Park, comes to an end this Friday, March 9th, at 8 p.m.

Since August of 2015, professional stand-up comedians, from Chicago, the suburbs and the Midwest, take the stage as part of the free-to-attend Funnier By The Lake Comedy (FBTL) showcase, at the very funky venue, owned by Smashing Pumpkins founder and front man, William Patrick Corgan, in the Ravinia Business District.

Chicago comedian Lia Berman slings jokes to a full house at Madame Zuzu's Teahouse in Highland Park.

"Our showcases at Madame Zuzu's shows are the only live stand-up comedy in Highland Park, and they have been really fun to produce. I produce many shows each month. But the Zuzu's show is my baby and I'm going to miss it." says Funnier By The Lake Comedy's, Larry Bloom, who in addition to producing FBTL showcases, performs regularly in Chicago and the suburbs.

"We've built an audience and regularly pack the joint. So, a bigger space is welcome."

As much as Bloom and his comedians enjoy working with the venue, and locals have come to appreciate the eclectic cafe as a local gem, Madame Zuzu's has wider eyes and is looking for larger space within Highland Park. "I'd like to continue to 'bring the funny' to Madame Zuzu's, when they find and build out a new space," says Bloom. "The current space is small and fills up quickly--capacity is only about 50 people. We've built an audience and regularly pack the joint. So, a bigger space is welcome."

New local shows at additional venues are in the works, too.

Until a new space is open, Funnier By The Lake Comedy will continue to produce other ongoing shows, including a showcase at Small Town Brewery Taproom, in Wauconda, and The Comedy Nosh at Max and Benny's, in Northbrook. New local shows at additional venues are in the works, too. All upcoming show information is available at the FBTL website, www.funnierbythelake.com.

Showcases at Madame Zuzu's are PG-13 (-ish) and have no cover charge or minimum drink/food order, leaving audience members with extra cash for the sandwiches, treats and the vast selection of teas for sale at the venue, as well as merchandise from the individual performers.

Funding for marketing the Madame Zuzu's and other local Funnier By The Lake Comedy showcases and paying the performers is provided by corporate sponsors. Businesses interested in supporting local, live entertainment can contact FBTL at 847.748.7490.
