Fort Sheridan Mansion By The Lake Sees Price Reduced

This 3-story stone home built in 1895 on a historic lane of officers' houses sits beside the beach, ravines and lakeshore preserve.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A three-story brick home on one of Fort Sheridan's historic loops of officer's housing saw another price reduction last week. The sellers of the 4,588-square foot, five-bedroom sitting beside Lake Michigan and the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve are now asking the same price paid for the property four years ago.

Built on Logan Loop in 1895 and sitting on a 0.47 acre lot, the home has hardwood flooring throughout. It has four full and two half baths and a pair of fireplaces. One is located in an open living room connected to a dining room with an original vintage cocktail bar. The other sits in a grand family room with vaulted cathedral ceilings and french doors opening onto the deck.

The kitchen is equipped with a Dacor range and a Subzero refrigerator and connects to a breakfast nook with views of the backyard.

There's also a finished basement with an additional bedroom, a half bathroom, a laundry room, utility room, storage area and a three-car garage.

The home was last sold for $960,000 in November 2014, the same price to which the asking price was reduced Aug. 22 after first returning to the market in February. Previously, the home sold for $980,000 in 2004, according to public records.

There is an annual $331 homeowners' association fee and the most recent available tax bill was just over $24,000. According to the Lake County assessor's office, the property's estimated market value is $1,013,589, and in June a smaller home on the same block sold for $1.1 million.
