Gun Found After Wanted Felon Flees Traffic Stop: HP Blotter
Whiskey collection, dumbbells, more than $900 in bedding reported stolen: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
BURGLARY
Between 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 5 a.m. Dec. 14, someone broke into a locked storage shed in the 600 block of Laurel Avenue and stole three sets of 15-pound dumbbells.
CAR BURGLARY/CREDIT CARD FRAUD
On Dec. 14, police were told that a resident discovered fraudulent credit card charges about three weeks ago, which dated between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1. The card was thought to have been stolen with a wallet usually kept in a car parked in the 2000 block of St. Johns Avenue.

THEFT
A whiskey collection and a set of silverware were reported missing from a home in the 1000 block of Judson Avenue on Dec. 17. The missing items had not been seen for more than a year.
SHOPLIFTING
Pottery Barn staff reported on Dec. 19 that more than $900 worth of blankets and pillow covers was stolen from the store at 1850 Second Street between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Sometime between 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 and 4 p.m. Dec. 17, someone damaged a drywall ledge in a stairwell in the parking garage of Renaissance Place, 1849 Green Bay Road.
- Someone cut a Christmas light display at a home in the 500 block of Barberry Road during the night of Dec. 19 or early morning hours of Dec. 20.
ARRESTS
Rakeem A. Day, 24, of the 5700 block of Winthrop Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 following a traffic stop on Route 41 near Westleigh Road. Officers pulled over a car in which he was a passenger after seeing a car matching a description from an area-wide broadcast warning of a wanted vehicle with a damaged front. Police reported Day gave them a fake name and initially refused to get out of the car. He later tried to run away but was quickly taken into custody. Police reported finding a handgun on the floorboard of his seat. Officers also discovered Day had an active arrest warrant from Cook County. Authorities charged Day with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felony, unlawful use of a weapon without a firearm owners identification card, resisting arrest and obstructing identification. Officers also issued him citations for failure to wear a seat belt and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.
A 20-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop at St. Johns and Vince avenues. He was also issued citations for making an improper right turn and driving without headlights when required.
A 31-year-old Lake Villa man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and displaying a false insurance card following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit.
Dru I. Joyner, 41, of the 3400 block of Sheridan Road, Zion, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Skokie Valley and Old Elm roads. He was also issued citations for speeding, improper lane usage and driving without taillights.
