Highland Park Dad Puts Spotlight on Heroin Deaths
Mark Filler, who lost his son Jordan to a heroin overdose in 2014, was an invited guest at President Obama's State of the Union address.

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk invited Highland Park resident Mark Filler to President Obama’s State of the Union address on Jan. 12 to raise awareness of the national crisis involving deaths from heroin overdoses, reported the Highland Park News.
Filler and his wife Julie launched the Jordan Michael Filler Foundation in their son’s name following his death after being released from an Arizona treatment center. The foundation also set up a Text-a-Tip program for students in Highland Park, Deerfield and Bannockburn that allows them to seek help or intervene on a friend’s behalf anonymously.
Filler told the Highland Park News he was pleased that President Obama spoke of the heroin crisis at the beginning of his final State of the Union address.
