Historic Highland Park 'Log House' Listed

WOW House: $3.3 million lakefront home was designed by architect of Chicago Water Tower.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — An 1893 log cabin designed by the same architect as Chicago's Water Tower and Pumping Station was listed last week for about $3.3 million.

Designed by former Highland Park Mayor William Warren Boyington, the house was originally designed as a summer home for Sylvester and Amelia Millard. It stayed in the family for around a century, although some alterations were made. In 1918, a housekeeper's wing was added. In 1929, the dining area was enlarged. In 1947, porches were removed and the upstairs was remodeled into more rooms. After a fire in 1977, it was remodeled again, with digging for a garage with a deck. The property was originally 11 acres, then five, and now about one acre looking out on the woods of Millard Park. The Millard log house was the first home ever built on Highland Park's east side, according to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

The house was last bought in 2005 for $2,955,000, according to Realtor.com.
