HIGHLAND PARK, IL — As school and public health officials continue to refine coronavirus safety guidelines for youth sports, the Illinois High School Association announced this year's varsity football schedule for teams across the state.

Highland Park High School is set to begin its season with an away game at East Leydan High School on Aug. 28. Led by coach David Lindquist, the Giants finished last season with a 4-5 record for the second year in a row.

Things are expected to look different under Friday night lights this fall, as the Illinois Department of Public Health aims to gradually lift restrictions on contact in time for high school sports at the start of the 2020-21 school year. But it's up to local school districts to determine how to implement the new safety guidelines.
