Inferno Fest Proves To Be A Hot Success

Taste buds were tested and the Inferno Fest Eating Contest crowned its winner

HIGHWOOD, IL (JUNE 26, 2019) – Celebrate Highwood’s Inferno Fest attracted thousands of fearless foodies ready to try some of the area’s spiciest foods and beverages on Wednesday, June 26th in Everts Park. Attendees taste buds were put to the test against some of the hottest foods and beverages such as Highwood's Señor Corn, who gave away a year of free corn to the person who could finish one whole inferno habanero corn on the cob on his/her own, Up In Smoke's variety of smoking hot nuts, Slyce's Spicy Crab Salad, Gourmet Frog's Hot Spicy Tamales, Culinary Gangster’s Habanero Gangster Burger and Eden's Garden Buffalo Quinoa Bowl, to Suzy Swirls Red Raspberry Ghost Pepper Sorbet, and spicy adult beverages from Toadstool Pub's award winning Hot Bloody Mary's and Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita's to The Humble Pub's Hot Chili Spiced Paloma.

“The crowds were fired up at this years’ Inferno Fest, dancing, eating, drinking and cheering on the competitors in the Inferno Hot Taquito Eating Contest,” explains Eric Falberg, President of Celebrate Highwood, and City of Highwood Alderman. “People were reveling in all the spicy glory! It was a joy walking around listening to attendees’ reactions to all the different spicy foods offered.”

Crowds gathered to cheer on the contestants of the Inferno Hot Taquito Contest as a dozen fearless foodies tested their taste buds to see who could be the first to eat five La Casa de Isaac hot taquitos made with their own sauce with the Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper. And, they were so hot no one made it the five!

Teddy Delacruz, 42, from Wooddale, IL was declared winner after all the other competitors couldn’t take the heat and called out for their “Kefir Cool Down”. Kefir Kids were on hand passing out Kefir non-dairy smoothies to cool down their palates after the competition. Delacruz was on his 4th taquito when the contest was called and received a $200 Visa gift card.

Derrick Procell and the Redeemers played amazing music to cool the soul all night long, sponsored by Coffee Cup Productions.
