Knife Attack Leads To Assault Charge For Highland Park Man: Cops

A knife-wielding was arrested after attacking his roommate Friday afternoon, police said.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A knife-wielding Highland Park man is accused of injuring a roommate Friday during a fight at their home.

Police and paramedics were called to the 300 block of Laurel Avenue for a report of a knife attack prior to 4 p.m. Officers arrived to found two men who shared a nearby home, both with minor injuries, according to police.

Julio Martinez-Rosas, 27, of the 300 block of Prospect Avenue, armed himself with two knives during an argument with his roommate, according to police. The roommate was able to defend himself, flee the room and call police.

Police said Martinez-Rosas and his roommate both suffered minor injuries in the fight.

Around 7:45 p.m., Martinez-Rosas was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery causing bodily harm, one count of domestic battery causing physical contact and one count of aggravated assault in a public place, according to an arrest report.

Highland Park police also charged Martinez-Rosas with driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, according to the Lake County court records.

Records also show Martinez was awaiting trial on a charge of misdemeanor shoplifting following an arrest by Waukegan police in December.

He is due back in court on the new charges on Feb. 22.
