Lake Forest Woman Fatally Struck By Train In Highwood

HIGHWOOD, IL — A Lake Forest woman was struck and killed by a Metra train Friday in Highwood, authorities said.

Kristin Avellone, 53, died from injuries she suffered when hit by a Metra train around 10:30 p.m. near Highwood Avenue and Green Bay Road, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Paramedics found her dead at the scene, just south of the Highwood train station, and called in the coroner's office around 11 p.m.

All inbound and outbound trains on the Union Pacific North Line were halted for several hours Friday night into Monday morning, according to Metra.

The cause of the Avellone's death remains under investigation by police and the coroner's office, according to the coroner's office.
