Late-Night Burglars Target Auto Repair Shop: Blotter
Repeat DUI driver accused of misusing handicapped placard; hidden spare key used to get inside house: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Between 1 and 5 p.m. on March 24, someone pulled off a Plexiglass barrier from the ticket window at the Central Train Station, 1700 St. Johns Ave., and broke it, causing an unspecified amount of damage.
- Sometime between the morning of April 4 and April 5, someone caused about $1,000 worth of damage by breaking a porcelain sink in the Fink Park bathroom nearest the dog park at 1377 Clavey Road.
PORCH PIRACY
Three Amazon packages were delivered to the front door area of a home in the 1300 block of Sunnyside Avenue on the morning of March 30. One package was opened and a Power Built socket set was stolen from within. The other two packages were left unopened.

THEFT FROM BEACH
Someone stole a black jacket, wallet and car keys from Park Avenue Beach, 31 Park Ave., between 4 and 7 p.m. on March 30.
SCOOTER SHOPLIFTING
On the afternoon of April 3, staff at Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, reported that someone had stolen a $500 electric scooter from the store around 12:45 p.m. on April 1.

POSSIBLE EXPLOSIVES
On April 6, a person on a walk discovered what was believed to be an old hand grenade on the shoreline at the bottom of the bluff at Openlands Lakeshore Preserve. On April 9, other materials that may have been aircraft flares dating back to World War II, were found in the same general area. The area has been closed to the public and Openlands representatives have not responded to questions about it. Read more...
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked Trek brand road bike while parked at Moraine Park, 2501 Sheridan Road, between 5 and 6 p.m. on April 6.
THEFT FROM CAR
Someone drove off from the Subaru dealership, 1350 Park Avenue West, around 8:30 p.m. on March 22, in a Volkswagen Jetta trade-in car, took its four 18-inch GTI allow wheels off of it and returned it around 11:45 p.m. that same night with four Michelin wheels and Volkswagen hubcap rims.
HOME BURGLARY
Someone used a hidden spare key to to get into a house in the 2900 block of Warbler Place between 10 a.m. and 9:33 p.m. on April 9. The front door was found locked, the house key was found on a staircase and nothing was reported out of place or missing from inside.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone stole about $20,000 in cash from a lockbox and took a checkbook after breaking into the auto service center at 2666 Waukegan Ave. between 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 8 a.m. April 11. A window on the building's north side was smashed and the chain locking a rear gate was cut.
ARRESTS
Dora M. Cruz-Colon, 59, of the 1700 block of North Artesian Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on March 19 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Skokie Valley Road.
Latricia B. Nesbitt, 26, of the 2000 block of Alta Vista Drive, Waukegan, was arrested around 3 a.m. on March 22 following a traffic stop near Deerfield and Skokie Valley roads and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver and speeding more than 35 mph above the limit.
Edwin L. Feliciano, 31, of the 1500 block of Hillcrest Avenue, Hanover Park, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on March 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road.
Abraham Gonzalez, 48, of the 200 block of Bluff Street, Aurora, was arrested around 9 p.m. March 24 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. He was also issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
A 28-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on March 29 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near Washington and North Central avenues. He was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
A 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly before 5 a.m. on April 3 and charged with speeding more than 35 mph over the limit and cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop at the Edens Expressway and Lake Cook Road.
Edwin E. Ventura Vega, 24, of the 1100 block of W. Keith Road, Waukegan, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on April 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more. Officers also cited him for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
A 47-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 11 p.m. on April 7 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also issued a speeding ticket following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Central Avenue.
Kenneth A. Bowman, 33, the 500 block of Hagemann Avenue in Burlington, Iowa, was arrested around 2 a.m. on April 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver, excessive speeding and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also issued citations for failure to wear a seat belt and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Mark Printis, 59, of the 2000 block of Oakton Street, Evanston, was arrested around 6 p.m. on April 8 and charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of misdemeanor driving under the influence, felony driving with a revoked license and unlawful use of a handicapped parking place or placard after he was found intoxicated and parked in a handicapped space at the BP gas station, 1881 Deerfield Road.
A 58-year-old Blue Island man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on April 10 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop near Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. He was also issued citations for driving with an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to signal and improper lane usage.
