Lawrence “Larry” H. Jacobson was born and raised in his beloved Toledo, Ohio in 1939 to Jerome and Edna (Eddie) Jacobson. The Jacobson family of Toledo was a small, but close-knot clan, anchored by brothers Jerry, Lou, and Sid. Though many years older than his sister Helen Jacobson (NJ) and his cousins Karin Jacobson (Toledo/Chicago) and Joan Jacobson (Madison, WI), Larry adored them all. Having graduated from Purdue University, a very proud member of the Executive Board of the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity, Larry married Joie Gutman in 1965. Larry and Joie welcomed Beth, Leslie, and Steve and raised their family in Morton Grove, IL. In 1980, after a family business (Western Brush Company) closed its doors after 80 years, Larry founded Amstat Industries which, apart from the pride he took in his children, was his greatest accomplishment. In addition to his work and family, Larry was a committed member throughout much of his life of the BJBE Synagogue, at one point, having served as Presidents of its Men’s Club. And, at 6 feet 6 inches tall, Larry overcame his relative lack of physical prowess and grace to master a mean hook-shot on the basketball court and even claimed to have dunked the ball…but, only one time, and admittedly, very much by accident. Somewhat betrayed by his physical presence, Larry was a bit shy and deeply sentimental. To know him was to love him, for Larry’s most celebrated quality was his decency. His memory will continue to be a blessing to his bashart, the late Joie; his children Beth (Eric) Schwartz, Leslie (Ari) Jacobson-Cohen, and Steve (Andrea Katzman) Jacobson; and his adoring grandchildren, Rebecca (Cody) Lefkowitz and Sarah Schwartz, Ariela and Elieza Katzman-Jacobson, and Aviva and Delilah Cohen. The family wishes to thank his beloved friends and caregivers: Lee, Dennis, Emma, Precious and John.
