Live Comedy Returns to Highwood Jan 11 with The Comedy Flight

Live stand-up comedy showcase on January 11th at Cellar Gate Wine Market and Bistro at 524 Sheridan Road, Highwood.

There is quite a bit to do in Highwood, Illinois. Great restaurants and bars, each offering unique menus of food and libations, and even a few opportunities to enjoy live music. If you have wanted to catch live comedy in that northern suburb, you have been out of luck for quite a while.

Until now, when live comedy returns on January 11th, with The Comedy Flight, at Cellar Gate Wine Market and Bistro, 524 Sheridan Road, Highwood, where attendees will enjoy a live show in a unique, intimate venue, complemented by an amazing selection of wines, and menu of delicious small plate items.

The stand-up comedy showcase is a co-production of Larry Bloom (Funnier By The Lake Comedy) and Ricky March (Best Corporate Comedy), both of Highland Park. Bloom and March teamed up to produce live comedy showcases and dinner-and-a-show comedy shows at venues throughout the suburbs.

Bloom produced and hosted Highwood's most recent live comedy shows with monthly showcases at The Alley (now 210) for two years, from 2014 to 2016. While he produces shows in nearby suburbs, Bloom has been looking for a good fit in Highwood, and believes he has found a new home for comedy at Cellar Gate.

"The physical space is similar to a traditional comedy club. As soon as I walked in to meet Cellar Gate owner, Kayla Steffens, I knew I was in the right place," says Bloom, who learned through his earlier experience in Highwood, that if the show is good and promoted right, there is definitely an audience. "The show at The Alley took a few months for word to get around and to cultivate an audience. But, it happened."

It is the hope of March, Bloom and Steffens to keep comedy on Cellar Gate's event calendar. "The Chicago area has a large community of talented, hilarious comedians. We've got great, funny people booked for the first Comedy Flight," says co-producer, March.

The debut lineup of The Comedy Flight includes stand-up comedians that have worked stages big and small throughout the country as well as internationally. The January show features:

Headlining the show is Chicago-based comedian and host of the This Week In Despair podcast:
