Lori Flores Weisskopf Declares Candidacy for HP City Council
Lifelong Highland Park resident with a decade of Park District Board experience looks to lead with a "We Are Better Together" approach

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., Feb. 3, 2021 — Lori Flores Weisskopf, a 10-year Park District Board Commissioner and a lifelong Highland Park resident, today announces her candidacy for the Highland Park City Council.
Flores Weisskopf, who grew up in Highland Park and attended Green Bay Road School, Elm Place Middle School, and Highland Park High School, has energized the Park District of Highland Park with her relentless efforts of long-range planning, capital projects, and transparent fiscal responsibility.
As Park District Commissioner, among her many accomplishments, she co-chaired the award-winning Rosewood Beach renovation project and the Park District’s 10-year comprehensive master plan - GreenPrint 2024 – which saved the District thousands of dollars through proper planning and budgeting for future improvements that was inspired by community feedback.

“I am running for City Council to provide an experienced and unique voice in order to build on our city’s solid reputation as one of the best communities on the North Shore. I have a strong foundation of government finances and planning experience, and a deep desire to give back to the community which has given me so much,’’ Flores Weisskopf said. “My focus is to improve day-to-day life for all Highland Park residents by strengthening our partnerships between the city, school districts and the Park District as well as other social services. Continued support of our safety services, police and fire departments, as well as public works, is also my top priority,” Flores Weisskopf added, “By looking out for the needs of our senior population, educating residents on affordable housing options, protecting our green spaces, and especially now during this pandemic - supporting our local businesses, I plan to be a voice for all. My approach is symbiotic and open-minded because, simply put, ‘We are better together.’ ”
Flores Weisskopf was selected by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) to serve on both the IAPD Program Committee and the IAPD Joint Editorial Board and currently serves as an advisory board member for Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH). Flores Weisskopf has held posts as a Board Member for Family Service of Lake County, Moraine Township Latino Advisory Committee Member, Community Family Center Community Member, and as a District 112 Education Foundation Trustee. She also mentored at-risk HPHS students and ran Nuestro Center’s daily after-school tutoring program for English-learning Oak Terrace Elementary School students.

“Lori brings a devotion to the community, caring for people and the environment, which reflects her sound values, thoughtful leadership and decision-making. She is experienced with how government works and operates, and her role in significant Park District projects speaks for itself. Lori is a driven and compassionate individual who listens,” said Park District of Highland Park Board President Barnett Ruttenberg.
Flores Weisskopf is a graduate of the University of Missouri. Her professional experience includes public/media relations for the Chicago Bulls, shareholder relations for Procter & Gamble, and she is currently in business development for UPS. Flores Weisskopf is the first and sole Latina elected to public office in Highland Park. Her dedication and passion for the city of Highland Park is unquestioned.
