Man Armed With Knives Injures Other Man Inside Church In Highland Park

Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi said no one was stabbed but two men sustained wounds consistent with cuts and abrasions.

A man who was armed with two knives and injured another man inside a Highland Park church was taken into custody by police on Friday, officials said.

Julio Martinez-Rosas, 27, of the 300 block of Prospect Avenue in Highland Park, was charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of aggravated assault in a public place of accommodation.

The Highland Park Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 3:45 p.m. Friday to the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 330 Laurel Avenue.

Officers arrived at the church for a report of a physical fight involving Martinez-Rosas and a roommate.

During the course of the incident, Martinez-Rosas armed himself with two knives but the roommate was able to defend himself, according to the Highland Park Police Department.

The roommate left the room following the fight and called the police. The victim and Martinez-Rosas both suffered minor injuries.

Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi said no one was stabbed but both men sustained wounds consistent with cuts and abrasions.

Martinez-Rosas was arrested and later released on a personal recognizance bond following a bond court hearing.

It is unclear what led to the altercation. Martinez-Rosas is scheduled to appear in court again on February 22.
