Metra Train Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Highwood

HIGHWOOD, IL — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train Monday night in Highwood. Metra announced trains were halted in both directions around 10:30 p.m. after a train that departed Waukegan at 10:05 p.m. and was due to arrive at Ogilvie Transportation Center at 11:25 p.m. hit a pedestrian.

Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper was called to the scene for a death investigation. Extensive delays were anticipated, according to Metra.

There was no immediate information available Monday night on the circumstances of the collision.

The coroner's office was still in the process of identifying the person who was struck as of Wednesday morning, according to Cooper.
