Featured Obituary:

Jeannie Balsam (nee Righeimer) of Glencoe, IL passed away on June 7, 2021, she was 53. Jeannie was the loving wife of Douglas and the wonderful mother of three beautiful, intelligent and caring daughters – Mira, Petrea and Alexa. Jeannie was the beloved sister of Mary Ellen (Tom) Rucks, Jim (Lene) Righeimer, Brian (Vicki) Righeimer, and Laura (Chris) Janssen. Jeannie was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and the fond daughter to the late Therese and the late James Righeimer.

Jeannie grew up in Lincolnshire, IL and attended Holy Cross School and Regina Dominican High School before heading to Indiana University, earning a B.S. in marketing and making lifelong friends as a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. Jeannie earned an M.B.A. from the Loyola University Chicago Quinlan School of Business, working as a marketing graduate assistant.

After an initial stint in the corporate world, Jeannie channeled her immense creativity, zest for life and love of people in building a successful interior design business on the North Shore – Jeannie Balsam Interiors. Gathering inspiration from a favorite pursuit – travel with her family – Jeannie wowed her clients and designed thoughtful living spaces that seamlessly meshed style and function. She dubbed the north Winnetka Green Bay corridor “the Hubbard Woods Design and Dine District” and the name stuck. Her legacy is in full view in the many design business that, after Jeannie’s impassioned speech at a city council meeting, now operate on street level.
