Police Investigating 2 Downtown Highland Park Robberies (Updated)
Schools were in a soft lockdown Monday because of the robberies, which happened within 13 hours of each other.

UPDATED (12:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3)—Highland Park schools lifted the “soft lockdown” around 11:17 a.m. Monday, according to a district email sent to Patch.

Police are investigating two robberies in downtown Highland Park that happened within 13 hours of each other might have involved the same suspect, according to reports.

The first robbery happened at 5:39 p.m. Sunday at the the Subway restaurant at 1946 First St., the report stated. The suspect demanded money be placed in a gray, plastic bag, then fled westbound toward Green Bay Road, the report added.
The second incident occurred at 7 a.m. Monday at Elm Place Tailoring Cleaners, 590 Elm Place, the report stated. The suspect fled on foot westbound after the robbery, the report added.
In both cases, the suspect matched the following description:
- Six-foot, medium build, male
- wore a black winter hat, black jacket with white lettering over left breast and same lettering on back, gray top over black gloves, black tapered pants and dark gym-style shoes
- also wore a dark red face mask that covered from his nose to his chin
Highland Park schools also are on soft lockdown because of the robberies, according to the Chicago Tribune.
