HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Mercedes-Benz SUV from the first block of Sheridan Road sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 5. The SUV had been left unlocked with its key fob inside, as well as a wallet and other personal items. It was later recovered in Chicago.

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole about a half-dozen signs, including political signs, from neighbors on the 1500 block of Forest Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, police were told.

SHOPLIFTING
Two woman stole an unknown amount of cosmetics and other items from the CVS Pharmacy at 1539 Clavey Road prior to 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 7. They fled in a Jeep Cherokee, but police did not know which direction they headed.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Sometime between 10 p.m. Oct. 8 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 9, someone broke the rear windows of a Chevrolet van parked in the 1400 block of St. Johns Avenue. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into a Subaru, Toyota and Hyundai parked in the 900 block of Judson Avenue between 4 p.m. Oct. 4 and 6:45 a.m. Oct. 5, stealing about $20 in cash, a key fob and house keys from inside. All three had been left unlocked.
  • Someone stole a purse from an unlocked Volvo that had been parked in the 1300 block of Lincoln Avenue South during the night of Oct. 4 or early morning hours of Oct. 5.
  • Three unlocked cars were burglarized and rummaged through in the 200 block of Linden Park Place. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.
  • Someone stole a wallet from inside an unlocked Audi SUV in parked in the 300 block of Braeside Road during the night of Oct. 4 and morning of Oct. 5.

ARRESTS

A 42-year-old Rochester, Minnesota, man was arrested around 3:15 a.m. on Oct. 6 following a traffic stop in the 200 block of Edens Expressway and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and speeding between 26 and 34 mph over the limit.

Oscar Oviedo, 40, of the 7300 block of North Oakley Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5 a.m. on Oct. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers dispatched to the site of a driving complaint found him in a parking lot near the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road.

Jose Morales, 34, of the 5900 block of 81st Street in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 11 following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road. Morales was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended or revoked license and unlawfully operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device after having his driving privilege restricted. He was also issued citations for speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Clarence E. Williams, 52, of the 600 block of 8th Street, Waukegan, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Oct. 12 after police found him wandering in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Park Avenue West following a complaint. Williams was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Armani M. Harvey, 19, of the 2800 block of Elizabeth Avenue, Zion, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 after fleeing a traffic stop near the intersection of Half Day and Skokie Valley roads. Harvey was charged with misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving without a valid license. Officers also ticketed him for speeding.
