Steinway Artist Susan Merdinger joins Artist Faculty of the InterHarmony International School of Music and Festival
Multi-awarded and internationally-acclaimed classical pianist, music director, and educator Susan Merdinger has been appointed to the Artist Faculty of the InterHamony International School of Music and InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy.
Susan is a distinguished musician with a career spanning almost four decades now. She is an alumna of Yale University, the Yale School of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music. Some of her awards include being a two-time Gold Medalist at the Global Music Awards, First Prize at the International Music Competition of France in 2013, Honored Artist of The American Prize in 2019, First Prizes in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competitions for Solo and Duo, and Winner of Artists International in New York.
Commanding standing ovations from her emotionally charged and spiritually uplifting performances in major concert halls around the world, she has been hailed as "exhilarating" by the Scotland Herald, while the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung declared her playing was "breathtaking, daring, and enormously joyous.” Critics are unanimous in their descriptions of Susan's fire, passion, thought-provoking interpretations, and astonishing technique that goes beyond the mere playing of notes on a page; every work she presents with a masterful sound and style, reminiscent of the "Golden Era of Pianists.”
Recently, Susan has participated in Northbrook’s Symphony’s historical virtual concert to celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. In the midst of the Global COVID-19 Pandemic, fifty musicians and audio-video engineers came together to rehearse and record the concert in a socially-distanced manner, each musician at least 6 feet apart from one another, fully-masked in formal concert attire.
As an Artistic Director of Sheridan Music Studio in Chicago and Highland Park, IL, and Video Blog Host of Merdinger’s Musings, and Steinway Sundays with Susan and Svetlana, Susan has had a commanding presence as a piano pedagogue. Her students have been successful in their own rights as performers and educators. Her students have won many top prizes in national and international competitions, and have gained admittance to prestigious universities and music schools such as Harvard, Columbia, Rice, Eastman School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, Carnegie Mellon, Indiana Jacobs School of Music, University of Illinois School of Music and more. Her students have performed in Carnegie Hall, have soloed with orchestras, have composed music for film and TV, and have successful careers and piano teachers as well.
Let Susan’s passion and dedication to music raise your level of performance when you sign up to study with her online or in Italy this Summer 2021!
About Interharmony International School of Music:
Designed by the organizers of InterHarmony International Music Festival, InterHarmony International School of Music offers intensive classical music instruction on all instruments in a year-round program, creating the possibility for students to study with the most renowned performers and scholars from around the globe without the trouble of travel.
IISM’s professors teach at prestigious universities around the world, are members of acclaimed orchestras, soloists, and chamber musicians. They offer students global exposure to instruction not always available in their local area.
Participants of the InterHarmony International School of Music will be automatically accepted to the InterHarmony International Music Festivals in Italy and Germany if they wish to apply. Virtual students will have the opportunity to meet professors in person at the InterHarmony International music festival, where those who studied virtually will study actually. Students of IISM can gain access to masterclasses and workshops provided by the IISM faculty and may submit applications for the Carnegie Hall InterHarmony Competition at a discounted rate.
IISM provides an intensive musical experience each week without students or parents needing to leave the comfort and safety of their home. With many physical precollege and continuing education programs in an active society, students and parents take hours out of their week commuting to extracurricular activities, need to stay on location for several hours, before commuting back home again. InterHarmony International School of Music allows parents and participants a break from getting in the car or on a train one more time, and provides comparable if not better musical instruction for students.
