Wild Storm Takes Down Trees

Trees no match for severe storm winds in Highland Park.

Tuesday evening's thunderstorms caused quite a mess, delivering rain, thunder and lightning, and dangerous winds throughout the suburbs. This large tree, standing approximately 50-60 feet tall, came down in the backyard of a home on St. Johns, just south of Lincoln Avenue West, in Highland Park. The tree, which snapped about twelve feet from the ground, broke apart and landed in several large pieces, damaging some landscaping but narrowly missing the detached garages on the same property and the lot to the north.
