Woman Arrested Twice In 10 Days Over Highland Park Crash: Blotter
Marijuana plant pilfered; DUI driver crashes into mailbox; motorcycle stolen after breaking down: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
TIRE THEFT
The occupants of a white panel truck and white Ford van were seen stealing several old tires and a pair of warranty tires being replaced at the Lexus car dealership at 2930 Skokie Valley Road at some point between on April 25 and May 30 for a loss of $300.
WEED THEFT
Someone stole a marijuana plant from the balcony of a home in the 2000 block of St. Johns Avenue on or around May 30, police were told on June 3.

CAR BURGLARY
A garage door opener was stolen from inside a parked car in the 900 block of Augusta Way between June 2 and June 3. Police were not sure if the car was locked.
PACKAGE THEFT
Three packages delivered from an online retailers were stolen from the front entrance of an apartment building in the 600 block of Walnut Street prior to 4 p.m. June 7 for an estimated loss of $100.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in the Target parking lot at 2099 Skokie Valley Road prior to 12:15 p.m. June 9.
MOTORCYCLE THEFT
Someone stole a 1981 Harley-Davidson motorcycle after it broke down near Fredrickson Place and Deerfield Place and was left unattended for less than an hour prior to about 5:30 p.m. on June 11.
SHOPLIFTING
An unidentified man or boy stole an unknown amount of items from the over-the-counter medication section of the CVS store at 2000 Skokie Valley Road around 5:30 p.m. on June 11.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone punctured the rear passenger-side tire of a car parked in a driveway of the 1600 block of Robin Hood at some point between 11 p.m. May 16 to 11 a.m. May 17.
- Someone damaged a light fixture, light bulbs and a glass display case at a business in the 1800 block of Second Street at some point between noon June 4 and 10 a.m. June 9.
STOLEN CARS
- A white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee valued at $38,000 was stolen from the south side of the M & I Motors building at 2772 Skokie Valley Road between midnight and 7 a.m. on May 31.
- Someone stole a 2017 Ford Focus that had been left unlocked with the keys inside in teh 800 block of Burton Avenue around 11 a.m. on June 10.
- Someone stole a black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee from the Hyundai dealership at 490 Skokie Valley Road at some point between noon on June 10 and 11:41 a.m. on June 11.
ARRESTS
A 25-year-old Franklin Park woman was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on May 25 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and ticketed for speeding following a traffic stop at Old Deerfield Road and Old Skokie Road.
Lisa M. Zapata, 39, of the 3300 block of Colgate Avenue, Zion, was arrested around 9 p.m. on May 26 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended or revoked license and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver after police were dispatched to a traffic crash involving two cars at Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. There were no injuries, and officers also issued her citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. Zapata was arrested again around 11 p.m. on June 4 and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and driving with a suspended or revoked license after police were called to a two car crash at Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. She was again ticketed for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
Allen B. Buie, 35, of the 6900 block of South Peoria Street, Chicago, was arrested on May 29 after turning himself in to be processed on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs and citations for improper lane usage, operating uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
Karla F. Villalta-Chinchilla, 23, of the 5300 Harvard Terrace, Skokie, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on May 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police were called to a two-car crash with no injuries near the intersection of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. Officers also issued her citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed.
A 26-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop on Half Day Road at Skokie Valley Road around 1:30 p.m. on May 30. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.
Kian Nikanjam, 25, of the 2000 block of Hidden Ridge Lane, Highland Park, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on May 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to the scene of a car that had crashed into a mailbox in the 2000 block of Malory Lane. Officers also issued him citations for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed.
A 22-year-old Libertyville man was arrested following a traffic stop at Half Day and Skokie Valley roads and charged with speeding at least 35 mph above the limit around 5 a.m. May 31.
Juan Pablo Garcia Bautista, 21, of the 100 block of High Street, Highwood, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on May 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Half Day Road. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol, disobeying a traffic control light and improper lane usage.
A 19-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 10 p.m. June 2 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and disobeying a traffic control device.
Jean B. Estrada-Carrera, 27, of the 400 block of South Hamlin Boulevard, Chicago, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on June 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a traffic control device.
John I. Morek, 20, of the 2600 block of Western Avenue, Highwood, was arrested around 3 a.m. on June 7 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to a report of a dispute in his block of residence.
Jordan A. Wexler, 39, of the 2900 block of West Arthur Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on June 7 in the 1600 block of Huntington Lane and charged with violation of an active order of protection.
David W. Dewitt, 38, of the 4000 block of North Harding Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7:45 p.m. on June 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at Green Bay Road and Roger Williams Avenue. He was also issued citations for failure to use a turn signal when required and illegal tire-squealing.
