Gottschalk House For Sale For Only 6th Time In 126-Year History

HOMEWOOD, IL — Looking for that last-minute gift for the person who has everything? How about an iconic historic landmark in Homewood that's been up for sale fewer times than the Chicago Cubs have made World Series appearances?

The 126-year-old Gottschalk House has only been up for sale six times — for reference, the Cubs have been in the World Series 11 times — and the house, 18101 Martin Ave., went back on the market in October for $539,900. But that might not last long. Realtor.com currently lists that a sale is contingent.

Built in 1891 and named after Mayor Henry Gottschalk, the 17,236-square-foot home had been the village's largest residence for years until part of it was turned into apartment units following its sale in 1951, according to the Daily Southtown. The three-story, Queen Anne-style home, which was built from bricks from the Homewood Brick Company, was named a historic landmark in 1982.

The Gottschalk House is owned by business partners Josh Solomon and Porter Palmer. The home is listed by Ron Wexler of Keller Williams Preferred Realty.
