Bail Set At $750K For Ohio Man In Hampshire Road Rage Incident
After shooting at a trucker, the man reportedly took 30 pills in an apparent suicide attempt before police found and arrested him.
HAMPSHIRE, IL — Bail was set Tuesday at $750,000 with 10 percent to apply for an Ohio truck driver charged with several felony offenses, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, for reportedly shooting at another truck driver in Hampshire Saturday night, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Kane County prosecutors claim William Lutz, 57, of Midway, Ohio, was at a truck stop on U.S. Route 20 in Hampshire around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, when he started arguing with the truck driver victim because Lutz thought the victim's semi was blocking the road, according to a release from the state's attorney's office. Lutz went to his semi and got a .45-caliber handgun, and the victim, of Pennsylvania, went back to his semi-truck cab and got inside, joining another passenger, according to officials.
Lutz shot twice at the driver-side door of the truck, and one of the bullets grazed the victim, causing bleeding, while the other hit the truck and caused damage, according to the release.
The state's attorney's office said Lutz drove away from the scene in his semi-truck, parked on the side of the road at Illinois Route 47 and I-90, and took 30 pills in an apparent suicide attempt. Shortly after, police found Lutz and arrested him, according to the release.
