Boys Lied About Being Duct Taped to Pole: Police
The brothers recanted their original report regarding teens that duct-taped one of the boys to a pole outside Stingray Bay, police said.
HUNTLEY, IL — Two young boys concocted a story about one of the boys, an 8-year-old boy, being duct taped to a pole outside Stingray Bay in Huntley, authorities said Tuesday. Authorities interviewed the two brothers, who are 6 and 8 years old, Tuesday afternoon, and they ended up recanting their original report, according to a post on the Huntley Police Department Facebook page.
Authorities launched an investigation into the alleged duct tape incident after a woman met with police Monday, claiming her young son had been duct-taped to a pole and his candy stolen while he was at Stingray Bay in Huntley. According to Huntley police, the woman said her sons were using equipment in the park area adjacent to the Stingray Bay water park when they were approached by two teens riding bikes.
According to the initial report, the woman said one of the teens grabbed her 8-year-old son's wrist, took his candy and duct-taped his wrist to a park pole before both teens left. The woman's other son reportedly got help from a park employee, who cut the tape to release the boy and called the mom.

Following the report, police reviewed videos and spoke to multiple people and, on Tuesday afternoon, interviewed the juvenile boys "to corroborate information," police said. At that time, the boys recanted the story and said "they were playing a game."
Authorities said no criminal charges will be filed due to the age of the children and any consequences will be handled by their parents.
