Credit Card Data Breach at Jewel-Osco Grocery Chain

Company says all Jewel-Osco outlets in Illinois were affected.

Credit card and debit card information for Jewel-Osco customers has been compromised in a data-security breach, the grocery store chain announced Friday.

It’s not yet clear whether cardholder data was stolen, according to AB Acquisition, which operates Jewel-Osco, ACME Markets and Albertsons stores.

“We understand the inconvenience and concern an incident like this can cause, and we deeply regret that our customers’ data was targeted,” Mark Bates, chief information officer at AB Acquisition, said in a statement on the company website.

The breach took place June 22 through July 17, the company said, and affected all Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

It is possible that time frames, locations and/or at risk data in addition to that described above will be identified in the future, the company said.
