Home of the Sparrow's 30th Anniversary Gala

Help Home of the Sparrow celebrate 30 years of service to the community on April 29th at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington!

Mark your calendars and join Home of the Sparrow on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 to celebrate our 30th anniversary! Our biggest event of the year will be held at the magnificent Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington from 4 to 10 pm. Guests attending the event will be welcomed to explore the estate’s splendor through self-guided tours, view phenomenal collections, attend an organ concert performed by renowned organist R. Jelani Eddington, indulge in butler served hors d’oeuvres, four hours open bar, exquisite dinner, auction, and a short program featuring women your support is helping. This is a black tie optional event.

Home of the Sparrow is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization which provides Transitional Shelter, Affordable Housing and Supportive Services to hundreds of homeless women and children within McHenry County and Northern Illinois each year. We provided services to over 800 Women and Children in 2016.

Over the past 30 years Home of the Sparrow has celebrated an abundance of milestones including: In 1987 HOS was granted its 501(c)3 status and was given the opportunity to house 16 women and children; In 1992 the agency opened its first “Sparrows Nest” thrift store in McHenry; In 1997 the McHenry shelter expanded to include 4 additional shelter units, the Palatine shelter is opened, and the Crystal Lake shelter site was purchased; In 2012 HOS acquired 13 units of housing from McHenry County and the Housing Opportunity Development Corp; In 2013 the agency was awarded funding through the HUD – Home Program, acquiring 6 additional affordable housing units; In 2014 the Outreach and Prevention program was started; In 2016 HOS added the 19th and 20th affordable housing units and was awarded “Nonprofit of the Year” by Shaw Media; In 2017 HOS added the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, affordable housing units; Coming up in May 2017, HOS will be opening its 7th thrift store in Third Lake.

Our mission: To provide Hope, Opportunity and Support that empowers women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
