Man Killed Coworker With Thrown Meat Knife: Prosecutors

A Rockford man is charged in the death of his coworker at a Hampshire meat packing plant.

HAMPSHIRE, IL — A Rockford man is charged with involuntary manslaughter after allegedly throwing a meat knife at his coworker at a Hampshire meat packing plant. Kane County prosecutors said Ler Htoo, 27, was "acting recklessly" when he threw the knife at coworker Ai Moo Say, 22, also of Rockford. The meat knife hit Say, causing an entry wound near his heart. Say was killed in the incident, which occurred Wednesday at the Hampshire meat plant, according to prosecutors.

Htoo appeared in bond court Friday morning. His bond was set at $100,000 and must post 10 percent to secure his release. If he does, he will be required to wear a GPS monitoring device and is prohibited from returning to the meat packing plant, located in the 200 block of Flannigan Road.

If convicted, he would face two to five years in prison, prosecutors said. The case is under investigation by the Hampshire Police Department.
