Characters of Character

The Characters of Character has had a fun filled summer and met a lot of wonderful children and families during their painting classes and community visits. I feel the need to share them with you and hope you'll find value in all that we do.

Vernon Area Library hosted a Manners Monkey painting class. This is what a mom had to say about the class:

Dear Ms. Downey,

Super thanks for the great program you gave to all kids at Vernon Area
Public Library today! My daughter learnt a lot and cannot stop
discussing with me topics of good manners on our way home. She also
asked me how to say all polite words in our native language. And she
just hung the manners chart on her room. I really appreciate all
positive impetus you promoted.

Knotty Pine Farm hosted a few of our classes this summer as well and a mom shared this with me:

"Great program for kids. Joni is amazing with kids, and so positive. I
wish more kids would experience Character of Characters."

It warms my heart to hear from others who appreciate our lessons on character building with our children. A recent review from The Old School House Magazine had this to say:

Joni! This is Angie at The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. I wanted to let

you know your review is complete! You can view your review at this

I love the idea of your characters and the values they teach our
children. This sounds like a great class for a homeschool co-op! Each
child could have a turn bringing the character home and keeping a
journal about their visit. I also love how the reviewer pointed out
this could be a full year idea. Thank you for offering the posters and
decorations, as I can totally relate to the reviewer regarding
decorating a classroom. It is so nice when the ideas are included for
you!

We really work tirelessly sharing the important character messages with others. Be sure to visit our website to see when and where our painting classes are being held. On Monday and Saturday I am at Hobby Lobby in McHenry, and during each month I am at the Grayslake Park District for children ages 1-5 and also 6-10 and I'm also at Read Between the Lynes Book store on the Square in Woodstock. Also this year we donated books to The Children Lurie's Hospital in Chicago and are currently working on another project to be able to donate Character Kits to Kids in need and in the hospital. If you are a business owner and would like to sponsor this, please reach out If you would like to donate a raffle item for our December drawing, again, please reach out. This is the formal letter shared with others:

Hello!

Do you ever wonder how you can help make a difference in the life of a child? Here at Characters of Character it is our mission to provide a firm foundation for children to establish strong civic values. The Award Winning Characters of Character are now donating Kids Character Kits with our books and supplies to help teach them these vital core values. Your donation and or Sponsorship helps get the job done.

Each Kids Character Kit has books, crayons and supplies to teach good behavior, perseverance, friendship, healthy habits, respect, responsibility, manners, self-esteem and kindness. All we need is you! This is a wonderful opportunity to support a local nonprofit with an important message. If you’re a family person, what another great way to demonstrate to your children about kindness and open their heart to volunteering and supporting others who are in need.

Characters of Character thought it would be fun to get as many people involved to support others and therefore we are offering a quarterly raffle with your donation. I myself, Joni Downey, the creator of Characters of Character will draw the winner ‘live’ at our Board meeting in December. Here is how it works:

First, each sponsor will receive a bumper sticker (if you choose) and coloring pages with your logo on it to share with your patrons to show you support this cause. Then, depending on the donation, your name goes into the raffle drawing as follows:

Sponsor 10 Kids Character Kits you receive one entry for the raffle $ 50.00

Sponsor 25 Kids Character Kits for you receive two entries for the raffle $125.00

Sponsor 50 Kids Character Kits for you receive five entries for the raffle $250.00

We appreciate your support at any level, however, if you’re able to sponsor the 50 Kids Character Kits your logo will go on our website, in the press release, our newsletter and social media. Characters of Character is the publisher of over 30 books which are available on Amazon and other online retailers, and because we are the publisher, we are able to purchase these books at a discount which allows us to provide more books for more children.

Wouldn’t you agree that this is just a simple, yet engaging opportunity to teach so many children and adults the importance of good character, the importance of being respectful, responsible and to be kind to others? The Kits will open up discussions of each of these vital core values, teach fine motor skills, allow children to use their imagination and introduce these traits in a way they won’t even know they’re learning!

Please feel free to reach out to us at jonidowney310@gmail.com or 815-403-0217 and know that there are other opportunities that are available for you to support this nonprofit organization.

Warmest Regards,

Joni Downey, President and Founder
