In 2014, there were about 48,000 people in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

While stereotypes of prison inmates portray them as young and tough, the Department of Corrections’ inmate population includes a significant group of senior citizens. And as aging prison populations become a growing concern, we thought it would be interesting to see the state’s oldest inmates.

Here are the 10 oldest prisoners in IDOC, along with some additional information about their sentences, offenses and the counties in which they were arrested.
