11 Dumpy Joliet Houses Leveled In 2020, 1 Nears
Joliet's Neighborhood Services Division oversaw about a dozen house demolition projects last year, slightly down from years past.
JOLIET, IL — During the past year, the city of Joliet's Neighborhood Services demolished a total of 11 residential properties and the city has a demolition contract in place for another one in the 1100 block of East Cass Street to start off 2021.
Along those lines, maybe, just maybe, this will be the year that the city finally rids West Jefferson Street of that ugly Senor Tequila building. The abandoned property has been vacant for many years as the owners of Basinger Pharmacy claimed they were going to tear it down to put up a new pharmacy and a liquor store on the site.
It never happened. Two weeks ago, the Joliet City Council voted to make the Senor Tequila property at 2219 West Jefferson St. a public nuisance, adding it to the city's list of properties facing demolition.
