5 New Joliet Public Nuisances: Photos

The Joliet City Council voted to make these properties public nuisances at Tuesday night's meeting.

JOLIET, IL — Four rundown houses on Joliet's southeast side plus a detached garage with a collapsed roof on Joliet's west side were given public nuisance distinctions at Tuesday night's Joliet City Council meeting.

Three of the dilapidated houses are owned by the same family, city records show.

Owner: Estate of Gretta V. Whitted

Property's problems: Single-family wood frame home with a detached garage. Has been vacant since at least May 2018. The home and garage have defective roofs with water leaks that continue to worsen. Joliet has boarded up the property four times and has hired contractors to cut the grass and cleanup the yard. There is an outstanding water bill in excess of $4,000.

108 West Marion Street

Owner: Curtis G Whitted

Property's problems: A two-story wood frame home that has been vacant since at least May 2018. The roof is starting to deteriorate and the water bill is in excess of $4,000.

322 South Joliet Street

Owner: Gretta V. Whitted

Property's problems: This two-story wood frame home has been vacant since approximately 2016. The roof is deteriorating and the wood siding on the home is warping away. This property has money owed to the city in forms of hearing costs, cleanup costs, boardup costs, and a water lien in the amount of $7,445.23.

108 Munroe Street

Owner: Aurora Mendez

Property's problems: This home has been vacant since at least January 2018. There are multiple bills outstanding for board ups, grass cuts, and clean ups of the property. There is a lengthy violation list including siding and roof repair. The water bill is in excess of $2,500.

1303 Burry Street, garage only.

Owner: Frank G & Jodi L Zarlter

Property's problems: This is a wood frame two-car garage. There has been a large hole in the garage roof since approximately September 2019. A violation list was sent to the owner as well as a pre-public nuisance letter. There was an administrative hearing for the violations in November 2019.
