59 Joliet HS Teachers, 27 Administrators Top $100,000 In Pay
Joliet Patch continues to examine how your local tax dollars are being used. This installment examines District 204 top teacher pay.
JOLIET, IL — A total of 86 teachers and administrators with Joliet Township High School District 204 are making at least $100,000 as of the 2020-2021 school year, according to public salary data furnished to Joliet Patch under a Freedom of Information Act request.
The data shows that Joliet Central and Joliet West each have 27 teachers making salaries of at least $100,000. Five additional staff members involved with special education and counseling programs with River Valley and Pathways also make six-figure pay.
During the 2019-2020 school year, Patch reported that Joliet Township employed 49 teachers and 25 administrators making six figures. Those numbers have climbed to 59 teachers and 27 administrators during the 2020-2021 school year, current salary data shows.

This entire school year, dating back to August, students at Joliet Central and Joliet West have remained on remote online learning.
According to Joliet's high school district, the top paid teacher works at Joliet West, Lisa Ryan, and she teaches French in the foreign language department.

Ryan's salary, according to District 204, is nearly $148,000, a raise of $8,376 from what Ryan made teaching French during the 2019-2020 school year.
Jacqueline Tyler, who is in speech pathology, is the highest paid classroom teacher at Joliet Central. Tyler tops $140,000 in pay with District 204. Her current school year salary is $7,931 more than she made last school year.
Earlier this week, Joliet Patch produced an exclusive public spending watchdog story examining the pay for District 204's top administrators. That article revealed that long-time Joliet West High School Principal Theresa Gibson is now making more than $203,000 during a school year with no students on her campus amid the pandemic.
First-year superintendent Karla Guseman got an $11,000 raise over the summer, upping her pay to $226,000. At this time a year ago, Guseman made $171,000 as assistant superintendent for educational services.
