6 Corners Dunkin' Donuts, Plus Mystery Tenant, Near Completion

Last summer, Joliet Patch reported on plans to build a Dunkin' restaurant at the empty corner lot next to Thayer Brothers Deli in Joliet.

JOLIET, IL — It's been four months since an inflatable rat appeared for a couple days at the construction project along Joliet's busy Six Corners intersection. Since then, the work site has been controversy free, and this week it looks like Joliet's next Dunkin' Donuts restaurant is in the final stages of completion.

Last summer, the Joliet City Council approved plans for the Dunkin' drive-thru near the intersection of Ruby Street and Raynor Avenue. However, the development will eventually have a second business tenant.

What type of business will open next to the Dunkin' restaurant remains a mystery, according to city of Joliet economic development director Derek Conley.

Still, Conley said he's pleased that construction has moved forward at a fast clip over the winter. He expects the new Dunkin' will be ready to serve customers by late spring or early summer.

"It is coming along nicely," Conley told Joliet Patch on Monday.

Besides the new Dunkin', Joliet Patch reported in recent days that Pop's Italian Beef will be opening a restaurant at the site of the Boston Market restaurant on West Jefferson Street that closed last April.

Conley said 2021 is shaping up to be a good year for Joliet in terms of economic development. A number of projects that have been approved by the city are coming to fruition, he added.

"A lot of inquiries that came in 2020 are now under construction, and we've got a lot more inquiries coming, I think," Conley said. "It's good to be a good 2021."
