7 Taken To Hospital After I-80 Wreck At Larkin Exit: Joliet Fire Dept.

The interstate reopened once tow trucks were able to remove the vehicles from the scene.

JOLIET ? Joliet Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Vish announced that five ambulances were needed on Sunday afternoon to bring a total of seven patients to area hospitals following a late afternoon crash on Interstate 80.

Vish said that at3:21 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department responded to Interstate 80 in the eastbound lanes at Larkin Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

The first units arrived within 4 minutes of the call, along with Illinois State Police. Upon investigation, the fire crews found eight vehicles involved. All eastbound lanes of traffic were closed for nearly one hour.

Joliet Tower 6 and Engine 5 crews extricated the trapped driver of one of the vehicles. A total of five Joliet ambulances were needed to transport seven patients to local hospitals. An additional seven people were also involved in the accident but refused medical care. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The interstate reopened once tow trucks were able to remove the vehicles from the scene.
