Angelo Shelby, 2, Visitation, Funeral This Week In Joliet

The 2-year-old Joliet boy died last week inside his house on Eastern Avenue when he accidentally discharged his father's gun.

JOLIET, IL — The visitation and funeral services will take place this week for Angelo Shelby, the 2-year-old Joliet boy who died last week as the result of an accidental gun discharge inside his family's house on Eastern Avenue.

Joliet police said the little boy accidentally shot himself in the head with his father's gun. The child's father was in another room when the shooting happened, according to police.

Minor-Morris Funeral Home on Richards Street is handling the funeral arrangements for Angelo, who would have turned 3 in August.

"Angelo was a beautiful, sweet, smart and funny and not to mention, shy little guy," Angelo's obituary stated. "When he didn’t have his cars, he had his phone watching Paw Patrol, Miraculous Ladybug, funny videos and dancing. He loved playing with his family ..."

Wednesday's visitation for Angelo is from 4 to 7 p.m. at Minor-Morris.

On Thursday, visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 402 Singleton Place in Joliet. The funeral service will start at 11 a.m.

After the funeral, mourners will gather at Joliet's Elmhurst Cemetery, 1212 East Washington St. For more information about the visitation and services, visit the Minor-Morris Funeral Home website here.

Last week, Joliet Patch reported that a GoFundMe has been established called Baby Angelo's Funeral Expenses. Organizers want to raise $15,000.

As of Monday night, 117 people have made donations totaling $8,465.
