Belle Tire To Build On West Jefferson Street, Plus Route 59

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Zoning Board meets Thursday afternoon to review plans for a Toledo, Ohio based company to open a pair of Belle Tire stores in Joliet. One would be built at 2526 West Jefferson St., which is an out lot near the Menards store. The second Belle Tire would be built several miles away at 1301 Route 59, which is an empty field near the Walmart store.

According to city of Joliet documentes, Belle Tire seeks several variances from the city of Joliet for signage for a future Belle Tire business at 2526 W. Jefferson St. and a second tire store that would be built at 1301 Route 59.

"From everyday tires to performance to off-road and trailer tires, our guys will find exactly what you are looking for in our vast selection of over 250,000 name brand tires in stock, at the lowest tire price, period," the Belle Tire website proclaims.

The vacant lot near the Menards is 10,000 square feet is zoned general business. Existing area businesses include Menards, Advanced Auto Parts and Murphy's Express Gas Station.

The second location would be built on a 9,900 square foot lot and that land is already zoned general business. The nearby properties include Friacos Mexican Restaurant, Walmart, the Pheasant Landing subdivision and the Hampton Glen subdivision.

"Belle Tire is building a new facility at this location, and the city approved their special use permit request in July 2019 to allow auto tire and repair as part of the tire sales facility," city records show. "Allen Industries, the sign contractor for Belle Tire, requests variations to install wall signs on the east and south elevations of the proposed new building, which are elevations that do not face a public street. The City of Joliet’s Zoning Ordinance allows a business one wall sign per public street front."

Joliet officials say that Belle Tire wants to put up additional signs at the West Jefferson Street location "to increase the store’s visibility to people utilizing the internal circulation roads, private drives, within the Menards and Walmart subdivisions."
