Bitter Cold, Sunny Day: Perfect Conditions for 'Sundogs'
If you spot one of these winter phenomenons, take a photo and we'll post it on Joliet Patch.
On a day such as today, when you get a mix of a bright sun, bitter cold, cirrus clouds and ice crystals, you can see an interesting phenomenon: "sundogs."
These occur on those rare occasions when all four of those elements combine and create what appears to be a "halo" surrounding the sun.
We're posting Joliet Patch reader Jeffrey Kelly's shot of a sundog, which he took today in Wilmington.
If you spot one and photograph, we'll post it on our site. You can attach it to this story, email it to karen@patch.com or post it on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/JolietPatch.
