Catch ‘The Sound Of Music’ Live On The Rialto Stage Next Year

Tickets are now on sale for the live musical, which will take place on May 22, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.

A live adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is coming to the Rialto Square Theatre on May 22, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale.

The Sound of Music, written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, is loosely based on Maria Augusta von Trapp’s memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The musical includes lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Richard Rodgers.

Although the musical was altered slightly from the memoir, it still speaks to von Trapp’s journey from being a governess to falling in love with and marrying naval commander and widowed father of the children, Captain Georg von Trapp. The story has themes of love and perseverance and is primarily set in Austria.

In 1965, the musical was transformed into a film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Both the musical and the film were major successes, garnering five tony Awards and five Academy Awards. In 2013, NBC introduced The Sound of Music to a new generation with a live televised production, with Carrie Underwood as the lead actress.

Since appearing in theaters over 50 years ago, The Sound of Music has captivated audiences with von Trapp’s story but especially the music, inspired by “The Trapp Family Singers.” When the musical comes to the Rialto stage, fans will be treated to favorites such as “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and more.
