Choking Victim Flees House, Joliet Man, 26, Arrested: Police

JOLIET, IL — A Will County judge has set bail at $10,000 for a 26-year-old Joliet man accused of choking a woman to the point she could not breathe, according to Joliet police.

Adrian Tapia-Perez, who lives in the 500 block of East Clay Street, was booked into the Will County Jail early Sunday morning on charges of aggravated domestic battery.

Joliet squad cars arrived at Tapia-Perez's house around 11 p.m. Saturday after learning of a domestic disturbance.

"Officers determined that a female adult victim had been battered by the father of her child, Tapia-Perez," Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English announced in Monday's news release. "Further investigation indicated that Tapia-Perez became angry with the victim at which time he grabbed her around the throat and began to choke the victim to the point of not being able to breathe."

The woman managed to free herself from Tapia-Perez, run out of the house and call 911, police said. Joliet police found Tapia-Perez inside the house on Clay Street, and they arrested him without any problems, police reports reflect.

The 26-year-old Joliet man remained in the county jail unable to post 10 percent of his bail on Monday, jail records show.
