Drunken Driver Crashes Into Joliet Softball Field Fence: Police

The man left the scene of the crash but was later stopped by Rockdale police, authorities said.

JOLIET, IL — A 40-year-old man was arrested Sunday after drunkenly driving his car into fencing at the Joliet softball fields before leaving the scene, according to police.

The man, Adrian Martinez, of Joliet, was arrested on several charges including aggravated DUI, criminal property damage, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident, court records show.

Cops were called to the softball fields in the 3000 block of West Jefferson Street around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday on a report of a car striking the fence before driving away.

Authorities allege Martinez drove his vehicle through a metal gate at the fields before fleeing on Infantry Drive. He was later stopped on eastbound Interstate 80 near Wheeler Avenue, in Rockdale, police said.

Martinez appeared to be drunk, and his vehicle had significant front-end damage, police said. He refused to undergo a sobriety test and was arrested without incident.

Joliet park district officials told The Herald-News that one fence at the Inwood Sports Complex was crashed through, but the field’s new turf was not damaged.

Court records show Martinez is set to be arraigned on May 14.
